Ahead of the release of Headtunes Recordings’ 5 + 1 mix CD, the Boston label sneak out a little sampler which represents the diverse sound of their impressive catalogue. Featuring five brand new tracks and remixes, it acts as a nice appetizer for the full compilation, mixed by Sleazy McQueen.
Sleazy McQueen is no stranger to Headtunes and provides the first 2 tracks on the sampler, remixed by 2 Spare Astronauts and Social Disco Club. ‘Big Times, Big Tings’ sees the 2 Spare Astronauts turn the dub-ragga house into a mind-bending funked out track with wicked acid lines. Social Disco Club delves into deeper disco-house territory on ‘Anna Due’.
‘Keep Digging’ is a debut deep house number from Roland Nights on Headtunes. He should be no stranger to deep house fans with releases on Lost My Dog, Urban Torque and 3am to his name. Jay West’s ‘Make My Day’, originally released on vinyl in 2007, sees Boston’s John Barera from B-Tracks take the original and give it a analog deep house rub. Rounding off the EP is ‘Love Haight’, a forthcoming track from Do It Proper’s next EP ‘Proper Doin’ It’. Here it is remixed by Homero Espinosa who takes it on a late night San Francisco house journey.
